A 10-man Hull side needed a penalty shootout to see off Newcastle and reach the last four of the EFL Cup, Jonjo Shelvey, Dwight Gayle and Yoan Gouffran all failed to find the net to slump to suffer shootout disappointment.
After a scoreless 90 minutes only punctuated by a red card for Hull striker Dieumerci Mbokani, Newcastle took advantage in added time as Mohamed Diame put the Championship leaders ahead. However the lead lasted barely a minute as Robert Snodgrass levelled for the Tigers.
Neither side could get a winner a but Newcastle collapsed in the shootout.
