June 28th is a very special date for football in Hull – it was the date, in 1904, on which Hull City was officially born.
There had been previous attempts to start up a football club in the city, but they would fall by the wayside after limited success, and it would be Hull City that would stand the test of time.
It was on this day in 1904 that the official announcement about the creation of Hull City was made and adverts were placed to recruit players. Training would begin in early August before the first official match of the newly founded club would come with a September 1st friendly fixture against Notts County which was drawn 2-2 in front of a crowd of around 6,000 at Hull FC’s Boulevard ground.
