Ex-Villa and Hull defender Chester announces retirement

Former Wales, Hull City and Aston Villa defender James Chester has announced his retirement at the age of 36.

He joined League Two side Salford City last summer but has only made two appearances this season.

Chester won 35 caps for Wales and was part of the side that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

He started his career with Manchester United and had loan spells with Peterborough, Plymouth and Carlisle before joining the Tigers in January 2011.

After helping them to promotion to the Premier League the following season and scoring in their FA Cup final defeat by Arsenal in 2014 he moved on to West Brom in July 2015.
