In a battle of one-win teams, the Houston Texans picked up their second win of the season by defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 31-20. It wasn't the prettiest game, for either team, but the Texans will take a win every time they can. Here are three things we learned from each team in the Texans' win.
Jacksonville Jaguars:
1. It's Going To Be A Long Season
The Jaguars are now 1-5, and it looks like it's going to be another long season for the team. The losses, for the most part, have been close, but wins are needed. If the Jaguars don't start winning games, it could cost Gus Bradley his job.
2. Don't Play Toby Gerhart
I'm trying to be nice here, but Gerhart shouldn't receive any carries. His vision is awful and he's nothing but a plodder. Gerhart averaged 2.9 yards per carry, and while Denard Robinson wasn't better, Gerhart shouldn't be playing. It's clear why the Jaguars spent a draft pick on T.J. Yeldon.
3. Blake Bortles Is Still Developing
Bortles showed flashes, completing 30 passes for 331 yards and 3 TDs. He also showed he's not quite there yet, throwing 3 picks on his 53 attempts. Bortles has talent, but it'll take some time for him to develop. He's not there yet.
Houston Texans:
1. DeAndre Hopkins Is A Monster
Hopkins had yet another huge game, racking up 148 yards and two TDs on 10 grabs. He's one of the best WRs in the NFL right now and the most important player on the Texans' offense.
2. The Running Game Has Issues
Arian Foster contributed in the passing game, but had little going on the ground. Foster picked up 53 yards on 18 carries, far less than we've come to expect from him. The Texans' haven't had much success this season on the ground, and that might not change soon.
3. Brian Hoyer Is The QB ... For Now
Hoyer was the only QB to get snaps for the Texans, as Houston didn't play QB roulette this week. Hoyer played well, so he'll get the start again next week. However, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Ryan Mallett at some point this season.
