The Houston Texans posted a 9-7 record this season that was enough to snag the AFC South and a playoff berth. The Texans were blown out by the Chiefs, but a playoff appearance is a playoff appearance. The Texans will have a tough path to the playoffs next season, but a few shrewd moves should help them make it back. Here are 4 Things The Texans Must Do This Offseason:
4. Replace Jared Crick
Crick will be a free agent, and the Texans might be best letting him walk. He wasn't that great opposite J.J. Watt and the Texans can probably find a better player. He was much better in 2014, so a short, prove-it deal is also an option.
3. Bring Back Brandon Brooks And Ben Jones
Brooks and Jones are both free agents, and should be brought back. They're young players and shouldn't be too expensive. Signing Brooks and Jones means the Texans' offensive line should remain strong next year.
2. Figure Out The RB Situation
If the Texans are going to release Arian Foster, then they'll need to find a new starter. The Chris Polk/Jonathan Grimes/Alfred Blue route just wasn't good enough last year. There are a few free agents that could fit, and spending a first rounder on Ohio State's Ezekiel Elliott makes sense.
1. Find A QB
This really shouldn't surprise anyone. It's clear Brian Hoyer won't win a Super Bowl for Houston. That the Texans made it as far as they did starting four QBs is crazy. Tom Savage likely isn't the answer (sorry Savage fans), so the team needs to find a franchise QB. There might not be one in the free agent market and the Texans are picking too late in the first to really grab one of the best QB prospects. This is much easier said than done.
