NFL Free Agency is officially here, and the next few days will feature several Houston Texans rumors. The Texans have already made several big moves and might not be done yet. With that in mind, here are a few of the more interesting rumors and news tidbits on the Texans.
Brian Hoyer another possibility?
The Texans are expected to part ways with Brian Hoyer "sooner rather than later" after signing Brock Osweiler, and New York is a very likely landing spot, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
If #Jets don't land Colin Kaepernick, expect them to inquire about #Texans QB Brian Hoyer. They already traded for one #Texans QB last year
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 10, 2016
Hoyer passed for 2,606 yards, 19 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 11 games last season.
Texans still interested in Hackenberg?
Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg has been linked to the Texans throughout the draft process due to his relationship with head coach Bill O'Brien, who coached Hackenberg for one year witht he Nittany Lions. However, many thought the Texans had stopped their interest in Hackenberg after acquiring Brock Osweiler from the Broncos, but that may not be the case. Via Toro Times' John McSwain:
While Hackenberg will not be brought in as the starter, he still would be a good player to have in this offense. He knows O’Brien’s system and as we all know after watching the Dallas Cowboys implode this season, you need a capable backup quarterback. That’s exactly what I think Hackenberg can be.
Hackenberg has struggled in the scouting process so far, meaning he will fall likely to the third round or perhaps even to the third day of the draft. This could work out well for the Texans, who could then pick up Hackenberg in the third or fourth round and spend earlier picks on other needs.
