Texans Claim AFC South Lead With 16-10 Victory Over Colts

The Houston Texans moved into sole possession of first place in the AFC South with a 16-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts, putting them in firm control of their playoff destiny. Here's everything you need to know from the game:

Notes:

This is Houston's first ever win over the Colts in Indianapolis. The Texans were 0-13 playing the Colts on the road since they were founded in 2002.

Indianapolis' 26th-ranked offense hit a new low against the Texans, recording just 190 total yards.

The Texans finished the game with Brandon Weeden at quarterback after T.J. Yates suffered a season-ending torn ACL earlier in the game, marking the first game Weeden has thrown more than seven passes and won since Oct. 3, 2013. Starter Brian Hoyer missed the game with a concussion.

Quotes:

"It's nice to get a win here, especially one as big as this." - Texans defensive end J.J. Watt on Texans' first win in Indianapolis.

“This one hurts, because you know we needed it. Here at Lucas Oil (Stadium) with our crowd, you know it’s one we had to have. We just didn’t get it done.” - Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton.

"I love coaching this team. These guys are tough, resilient. I'm very, very proud of this team." - Texans head coach Bill O'Brien.

Observations:

Many view the AFC South as a division consisting of the Colts and three other bad teams, but the Texans are on the verge of owning the division. If Houston can avoid falling apart over the course of the last two games of the season, they'll win the division for the third time in the last five years.

Houston's defense has stepped up in a big way during their surge to the top of the division. Since their blowout loss to the Miami Dolphins, the Texans are giving up just 14.6 points per game, including holding four teams to 10 points or less.
