Former Baylor star quarterback Robert Griffin III was informed Monday that he'll be released by Washington.
It's a long anticipated roster move for Griffin, whose career has been on a downward spiral in recent years.
The Texans aren't expected to be a landing spot for the former Heisman Trophy winner, but he could draw interest from the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets.
Washington switched quarterbacks before last season, going with Kirk Cousins as Griffin's replacement.
Cousins is installed as the Redskins' franchise player, at a cost of $19.953 million.
Drafted second overall, Griffin is a former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
