Growing up in Mississippi, Cory Carter developed a passion and skill for soccer.
He drew scholarship offers from South Florida, Alabama-Birmingham and North Carolina-Greensboro.
Carter didn't start playing football until he was a high school senior and developed into an All-American punter for Texas Southern.
"Soccer was my sport, but I really took to football fast," Carter said. "Being athletic at the position helps a lot. I bring power and accuracy as a punter."
Carter worked out for the Texans at their local prospect workout, auditioning for their coaching staff. He punted, did kickoffs and a few field goals.
