The Houston Texans suffered their worst loss of the 2024 season Sunday night as a 23-7 halftime lead evaporated into a 26-23 loss to the Detroit Lions. Tomball native Jake Bates closed the collapse at NRG Stadium with a pair of clutch late field goals.
Bates, a former college soccer player who didn’t play NCAA football until his junior year as a transfer student at Texas State, made two field goals in the fourth quarter Sunday night. He hit a 58-yard game-tying kick that snuck just inside the right upright with five minutes left, then banged home a 52-yard field goal as time expired.
