T.J. Watt now has bragging rights over his brother J.J., agreeing to a four-year contract extension with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday that will pay him $112 million.
Not only does that eclipse any contract J.J. Watt ever signed, it also makes the youngest Watt brother the highest-paid defensive player in the league. J.J.'s biggest deal was a six-year, $100 million extension he signed with the Texans in 2014.
T.J. Watt had been in something of a staredown with the Steelers. Entering the final year of his rookie contract, the pass rusher wanted a new contract before the season started, so he chose to sit out all four of the Steelers' preseason games and didn't participate with the first-team defense in 11-on-11 drills until this week while he negotiated a new deal.
