The conversation didn't take long to pique Brandon Williams' interest. Texas A&M veteran defensive coordinator John Chavis had a vision of converting the speedy running and former blue-chip recruit into a star cornerback.
Chavis was enamored of Williams' size and strength at 6-foot, 200 pounds and his speed with a time of 4.37 in the 40-yard dash.
And Williams enjoyed playing a new position. The Royal graduate from Brookshire emerged as the starter opposite De'Vante Harris and displayed a strong knack for the new position, recording 34 tackles and seven passes defended.
"I love playing cornerback because at running back you've got to depend on people for your play as far as blocking," said Williams, who bench pressed 225 pounds 18 times at the NFL scouting combine in February where he had a 30 1/2 inch vertical leap and a 9-10 broad jump.
