The Texans worked out tight ends Gabe Holmes and Brandon Barnes on Tuesday, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.
Holmes is a former Oakland Raiders backup. He went undrafted out of Purdue.
Barnes is a former Detroit Lions reserve who went undrafted out of Alabama State.
Neither player was immediately signed to a contract.
The Texans have two tight ends on the active roster, C.J. Fiedodorowicz and Stephen Anderson, after placing tight end Ryan Griffin on injured reserve last week with a concussion.
They have one tight end on the practice squad: MyCole Pruitt.
