TAMPA, Fla. -- Discarded and derided by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Texans cornerback Vernon Hargreaves got the final word Saturday.
The former Buccaneers first-round draft pick helped the Texans win an AFC South division title with a 23-20 victory.
Hargreaves had a tackle for a loss on running back Ronald Jones on 3rd-and-1 in the fourth quarter as the Texans defense preserved the lead.
"I needed to make a play, needed to make some kind of play," Hargreaves said. "It was slow for me to start, but I just kept playing."
Claimed off waivers by the Texans and installed as their nickel back, Hargreaves' effort was questioned by Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians earlier this season.
