Texans tackle Derek Newton carted off

DENVER -- The Texans' offensive line absorbed a heavy blow Monday night when starting right tackle Derek Newton was carted off the field in severe pain during the first quarter.

He was declared out for the remainder of the game against the Denver Broncos.

Newton went down to the ground with an apparent left knee injury and was immediately attended to by trainers, kicking his other leg in pain.

An air cast was placed around his leg by medical personnel.

Newton was helped onto the cart by left tackle Duane Brown. The 6-6, 315-pound former seventh-round draft pick from Mississippi State missed the Texans' game last week against the Indianapolis Colts with an ankle injury.
