Texans sign Matt Pierson, cut Cleveland Wallace

The Texans signed former Oregon offensive tackle Matt Pierson and cut cornerback Cleveland Wallace III.

Pierson is a former walk-on for the Ducks who earned a scholarship.

Pierson bulked up and emerged as a starter after arriving on campus weighing just 245 pounds.

The Texans needed depth on the offensive line with both starting tackles injured, including left tackle Duane Brown being on the physically unable to perform list as he recovers from a torn quadriceps tendon suffered at the end of last season. Right tackle Derek Newton is sidelined with a strained hamstring.

The Texans cut Wallace one day after he passed his physical and was placed on the active roster Tuesday afternoon.
