WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. -- The Texans signed veteran safety Marcus Gilchrist on Monday.

Gilchrist, 29, spent the last two years with the New York Jets. He suffered a major knee injury last season.

Gilchrist was San Diego's second-round pick in 2011 and played four seasons with the Chargers before going to the Jets.

Gilchrist joins the competition at safety, where Andre Hal and Corey Moore are running with the first team.
