The Texans' most expensive free agent investment a year ago was signing veteran cornerback Aaron Colvin.
Under former general manager Brian Gaine, the Texans signed Colvin to a four-year, $34 million contract that included $18 million guaranteed.
After operating primarily as a nickel corner with the Jacksonville Jaguars in tandem with All-Pro outside corners Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye, Colvin and the Texans wanted him to fill a much larger role in Houston.
None of those hopes worked out, though, at least initially during his first season with the Texans.
Colvin was a healthy scratch for a playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
