The signing of veteran safety Don Jones is expected to upgrade the Texans' special teams.
An athletic former Miami Dolphins seventh-round draft pick, the 5-11, 195-pound Jones has played in 28 career games. He's recorded 25 tackles and forced one fumble, including stints with the New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns.
Jones was signed Wednesday after a successful tryout Tuesday that included cornerbacks Denzel Rice and Charles Gaines.
"I hope to come in and be an immediate impact player," Jones said. "I like the guys on this team. They seem like a great bunch of guys who love playing together.
