Ignored when NFL scouting combine invitations were delivered last winter and passed over during the NFL draft, Texans rookie linebacker Dylan Cole has achieved a status that surpasses what was expected from him.
The undrafted free agent from Missouri State will have a significant role and potentially start Thursday night against the Cincinnati Bengals with veteran middle linebacker Brian Cushing out with a concussion. The Texans also will utilize second-round draft pick Zach Cunningham.
Named the top linebacker in the nation among Football Championship Subdivision schools by athletic directors, Cole isn't surprised by his quick ascension.
"That was my expectation," Cole said.
