When Texans rookie offensive tackle Tytus Howard injured his left knee in Sunday's win at Kansas City, he was replaced by backup Roderick Johnson.
Tests revealed a partially torn medial collateral ligament for Howard that won't require surgery and is expected to sideline him indefinitely, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.
Johnson performed capably at right tackle in Howard's absence as the Texans allowed no sacks and rushed for 192 yards.
"I'm very excited to get out there with the guys and win some games," Johnson said. "I want to show that I can be one of the guys, be next man (up) and not miss a beat.
