As the contract standoff between disgruntled Pro Bowl wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and the Texans continues, Texans general manager Rick Smith emphasized that the team isn't inclined to change its stance on not negotiating with him.
Smith characterized Hopkins' decision to withhold services as "counterintuitive." Hopkins is on the reserve-did not report list and is being fined $40,000 per day.
The Texans declined to enter into talks with Hopkins heading into his fourth NFL season after being approached by Hopkins' agents at Creative Artists Agency this summer.
"There are any number of factors that go into a club's decision on when or whether or not to extend the contract," Smith said following the first day of training camp.
