Texans reach deal with fifth-round pick D.J. Reader

The Texans are signing former Clemson nose tackle D.J. Reader to a four-year, $2.55 million contract that includes a $215,380 signing bonus.

The fifth-round draft pick has a first-year salary-cap figure of $503,845.

Reader is a big interior lineman at 6-3, 333 pounds. He'll be groomed behind five-time Pro Bowl nose tackle Vince Wilfork.

Reader has run the 40-yard dash in 5.28 seconds with a 29 1/2 inch vertical leap and bench pressed 225 pounds 30 times at the NFL scouting combine.

"The big nose is a really good scheme fit, high-character young man, a really aggressive player," Texans general manager Rick Smith said.
