Texans’ punter Shane Lechler and kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn are off to outstanding starts.
In his 18th season, Lechler is punting as well as ever. In four games, he has a gross average of 50.8 yards and a net of 42.5. He’s put seven inside the 20 and has no touchbacks.
The Texans took a chance when they waived veteran kicker Nick Novak and kept Fairbairn.
Novak scored 127 points last season and missed only three field goals inside the 50 while Fairbairn was on injured reserve.
One quarter into the season, Fairbairn is making the Texans look good for keeping him.
