Texans punter Shane Lechler was recognized by the NFL on Wednesday when he was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Lechler averaged 50.8 yards per punt against the Detroit Lions, including a long punt of 59 yards.
He had a 49.5-yard net average. Three of his punts were downed inside the Lions' 20-yard line, giving the Texans an edge in the field-position battle.
The Lions' longest punt return during the Texans' win on Sunday was eight yards by Andre Roberts.
Lechler is one of the top punters in NFL history. The former Texas A&M standout from East Bernard is averaging 48.
