Max Bullough emerged as a key contributor to the Texans' special teams last season.
The former Michigan State standout played in a career-high 13 games last season after being activated from the practice squad, recording 14 special-teams tackles.
He started once against the Tennessee Titans and had seven tackles.
Now, Bullough is pushing for a role on defense. He started against the San Francisco 49ers at middle linebacker, registering two tackles and one pass deflection.
"It was good to get out there and play a real game, but I think it can always be better," Bullough said.
