Texans' Jeff Allen excused from practice for birth of child

Texans veteran offensive guard Jeff Allen was excused from practice Thursday for a good reason.

His wife, Marissa, is giving birth to a baby boy. The Allen family also has a young daughter.

Marissa is a budding food blogger and chef and Jeff assists her in the kitchen and is a self-proclaimed grill master.

Allen joined the Texans in March on a four-year, $28 million free agent deal and was installed as their new starting right guard as the replacement for Brandon Brooks when Brooks signed a five-year, $40 million contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.
