As a head coach or defensive coordinator, Romeo Crennel has never been associated with a defense that finished No. 1 in the NFL.
And the Texans have never had a defense that finished first in their 15-year history.
In their last regular-season game before they host Oakland, Kansas City or Miami in a wild-card game, the Texans play at Tennessee. Matt Cassel has replaced the injured Marcus Mariota at quarterback.
In his third season as the Texans' coordinator, Crennel has the top defense in the league, allowing 305.7 yards. Minnesota (314.3) is second.
First and foremost, the Texans want to win, but they would take a lot of pride finishing first in defense for the first time.
