The Texans made it official Thursday when they hired former Indianapolis vice president of football operations Jimmy Raye III as their assistant general manager.
Raye, 48, will become general manager Rick Smith's right-hand man.
The Texans had a vacancy because Brian Gaine, the director of player personnel, was hired last week as Buffalo's vice president of player personnel.
Raye spent four years in the Colts' personnel department. He worked with new Colts' general manager Chris Ballard through the draft.
Raye, the son of long-time NFL assistant coach Jimmy Raye II, worked in San Diego for 17 years, including director of player personnel for the last five years (2008-12).
