The Texans voted in defensive end J.J. Watt, quarterback Deshaun Watson, cornerback Johnathan Joseph and inside linebacker Dylan Cole as permanent team captains for the season.
“We've got a lot of leaders on this team,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said. “Those are the four captains, but there's other guys that can lead, too. Those four guys are very well-respected on this football time.”
A former undrafted free agent from Missouri State, Cole has emerged as a key backup on defense and a core special-teams contributor.
“He always tells me I had no idea who he was, didn't even know his name – which isn't true, I knew his name was Dylan,” O’Brien said of Cole's rookie minicamp.
