Texans' DL Angelo Blackson emerges as a starter

The emergence of Texans defensive lineman Angelo Blackson as a starter didn't happen overnight.

It's been a gradual process for the former Auburn standout where he's slowly built his value to the organization. Signed to a three-year, $12 million contract during the offseason that included $3.5 million guaranteed, Blackson started four of 16 games last season and recorded 24 tackles and one sack. At 6-4, 320 pounds, the former New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans reserve lineman has good size and mobility and manhandles blockers.

"He came on last year toward the middle of the season and started performing pretty consistently," Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel said.
