ARLINGTON -- Although there was never any intention of playing starting offensive tackle Derek Newton in the Texans' preseason finale, the veteran blocker did show that he's made a sound recovery from his hamstring injury during drills before kickoff.
Newton was able to run with no visible signs of discomfort, moving well as he warmed up before sitting out against the Texans' game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Newton got hurt during the Texans' first day in full pads during training camp, missing the entire preseason before returning to practice this week.
Texans coach Bill O'Brien has said he could see Newton being ready for the season opener against the Chicago Bears.
