Texans offensive tackle Derek Newton underwent a pair of lengthy surgeries Thursday to repair both patellar tendons with the procedure regarded as successful, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.
As bad as the injury was, the lone bright spot is that Newton didn't suffer any torn anterior cruciate ligaments during a devastating injury sustained Monday night when he fell backward against the Denver Broncos while blocking star outside linebacker Von Miller.
Still, Newton faces a lengthy rehabilitation that will involve him being in a wheelchair for several weeks before then being on crutches and returning to walk within roughly three months.
