Texans DE J.J. Watt one of 20 nominated for Texas Sports Hall of Fame

Even while he remains in the prime of his career, Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt was among 20 candidates nominated Tuesday for the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in Waco.

At least six individuals from among the 20 candidates will be selected for induction during the hall’s annual banquet next March in Waco. Unlike other halls of fame, active players, coaches and administrators are eligible for induction into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

In addition to Watt, other active players, coaches and executives among the 20 candidates on the primary ballot include 1992 Olympic gold medalist and current University of Houston head track and field coach Leroy Burrell, TCU football coach Gary Patterson and 2016 Olympic gold medal-winning shot putter Michelle Carter of Red Oak and the University of Texas.
