When the Texans' beleaguered defense took the field Sunday, they quickly fell behind and started substituting in the secondary.
At one point, starters Bradley Roby and Johnathan Joseph were watching from the bench during the second quarter. They went back into the game in the second half of a 38-24 loss to the Denver Broncos, but nothing really worked for a defense that allowed rookie quarterback Drew Lock to pass for 309 yards and three touchdowns. He was only sacked once and safety Tashaun Gipson intercepted him once.
Texans coach Bill O'Brien said the substitution pattern was part of a planned rotation.
