INDIANAPOLIS — Texans coach Bill O'Brien said Tuesday at the NFL combine that offensive coordinator Tim Kelly will call plays next season.
Kelly, who has been with O’Brien since he was a graduate assistant at Penn State, is in his second year as offensive coordinator. O’Brien said Kelly also will coach quarterbacks, one reason being his strong relationship with Deshuan Watson. O'Brien had been the offensive play-caller since early in the 2016 season after taking over duties from then-offensive coordinator George Godsey.
O’Brien also said offensive assistant T.J. Yates will be assistant quarterbacks coach. Carl Smith, last year’s quarterbacks coach, will become an offensive consultant.
