Texans' Brennan Scarlett progressing as a player

The development of outside linebacker Brennan Scarlett from an undrafted free agent from Stanford into a core defensive contributor has involved a steady learning arc.

Signed to a one-year, $3.75 million contract extension prior to the season, Scarlett recorded a sack and forced fumble against the Carolina Panthers. He has started one game and played in four this season, registering six tackles. Scarlett drew a key holding penalty against the Los Angeles Chargers that nullified a touchdown pass.

"I think he's doing a very nice job," Texans defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel said. "He learned when he wasn't playing, and now that he's playing, he's continuing to learn but he's productive as well.
