One day before the Texans traded away franchise player Jadeveon Clowney, coach Bill O'Brien said that there was a difference of opinion on the value of the former top overall pick contractually.
As the Texans traded the three-time Pro Bowl pass rusher to the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday in exchange for a third-round draft pick and Barkevious Mingo and Jacob Martin, the defending AFC South champions paid Clowney extra to finalize and sweeten the trade for the cap-strapped Seahawks.
The Texans, when the trade is completed after physicals are passed, will pay Clowney a $7 million signing bonus, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.
