Arian Foster has been told the Houston Texans are releasing him, a source close to Foster told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Foster has spent seven seasons in Houston, rushing for 6,472 yards and 54 touchdowns. He led the NFL in rushing in 2010 and has been named to the Pro Bowl four times.
The 29-year-old Foster was due a $6.5 million base salary with a salary-cap number of almost $9 million for the 2016 season. By releasing him, the Texans would save around $6.6 million, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
The last time Foster played in all 16 games was in 2012.
