Instead of keeping former starting quarterback Brian Hoyer on the roster in hopes of obtaining a draft pick for him, the Texans opted to cut him Sunday following an exit physical.
It was timed one day before the Texans' launch of their offseason training program. If Hoyer hadn't been released, he was expected to report for the workouts. He's been training in town at IX Innovations, which is owned by Abdul Foster, the older brother of former Texans running back Arian Foster.
It could at least outwardly might have appeared awkward to have Hoyer remain with the team rather than cut him one year into a two-year, $10.
