Former Oilers receiver Charlie Hennigan, the first great wide receiver in Houston professional football history, died Wednesday at 82.

After owner Bud Adams founded the franchise, beginning in 1960, Hennigan collaborated with quarterback George Blanda to form one of the most prolific twosomes in pro football history. They helped the Oilers win the first two American Football League championships before losing the third title game in overtime to the Dallas Texans.

Hennigan, who played from 1960 through 1966, finished his career with 410 catches for 6,823 yards and 51 touchdowns. He scored the first touchdown in Oilers' history.
