La Marque grad Brian Allen drafted by Steelers in fifth round

A position change in college did not prevent La Marque graduate Brian Allen from getting drafted by an NFL team.

Allen on Saturday was picked by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fifth round of the NFL draft. He played the majority of his college career at Utah as a cornerback but was recruited out of Galveston County as a wide receiver.

He appeared in 13 games with nine starts as a senior in 2016. He had four interceptions, 10 passes defended, six pass break-ups and 35 tackles.

In 2010 he was a key offensive player as La Marque advanced to the Class 4A, Division II state championship game.
