Unwinding his body into a powerful swing of the bat, Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt slammed a softball into the stands during a home run derby at his fifth annual charity softball game.
The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year drew applause from the crowd Saturday night at Minute Maid Park. He drew more satisfaction from his philanthropic efforts than the feat of winning the home run derby.
Since the inception of his charitable foundation, Watt has helped raise more than $3 million. That includes $1.6 million from his charity softball game last year. His charity has benefited 28 states, 300 schools and 178,500 middle school students.
