The Houston Texans social media team dared to tread on the risky waters of religion Friday, and it mostly paid off. The Texans tweeted “Happy Passover to all who celebrate!” along with photoshopped images of Brandin Cooks and Brevin Jordan holding giant matzos instead of footballs.
Passover is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the Hebrews’ liberation from slavery in Egypt. Passover begins April 15 and for seven days matzo, an unleavened bread, is the only type of bread Jewish people eat.
Initially, the post, which had received more than 7,000 likes and 2,400 retweets as of Friday afternoon, drew some backlash, but eventually the majority agreed it was funny and not in poor taste.
