The Houston Texans have finally decided to part ways with quarterback Ryan Mallett.
Mallett was late to arrive for a team flight to Miami and was forced to fly there commercially. Head coach Bill O’Brien wanted to cut Mallett right then and there but general manager Rick Smith reportedly vetoed that decision.
With Mallett gone, the Texans will sign T.J. Yates to back up Brian Hoyer. O’Brien traded Yates prior to the 2014 season, but bringing him back now makes sense since he knows the playbook pretty well.
The Texans did the right thing cutting Mallett after this incident.
