All bets were off the table after Houston Texans running back D’Onta Foreman tore his Achilles against the Arizona Cardinals in his rookie season. The Texans had similar experiences with dealing with these injuries from Arian Foster, Demaryius Thomas, and Kayvon Webster. They ultimately were not going to be the players they once were so they were waived or not extended to a new contract.
The world of sports medicine has not found a clear solution to address the severity of an Achilles injury and it is a deal-breaker for an athlete at that running back position. Texans no longer had any strong ties with Foreman as an investment in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft with Rick Smith no longer the general manager in the Texans front office.
