After hosting Super Bowl VI in February, Houston plans to pursue the NFL draft.
Once the league opens up the bidding, Houston wants to be part of it.
"It's one of those marquee events that a lot of cities around the country want to host, and Houston wants to be part of that," Texans president Jamey Rootes said.
Philadelphia hosted this year's draft that ended Saturday, and the NFL has an option to return to the City of Brotherly Love next year. Chicago hosted in 2015-16. Before that, the draft had an extensive run in New York.
