After 10 seasons in the NFL, including 9 ½ with the Houston Texans, the 31-year-old Whitney Mercilus announced his retirement Wednesday.
The man some called “No Merci” was released by the Texans in October, but immediately picked up by the Green Bay Packers. Mercilus played four games for Green Bay before suffering a biceps injury. He rushed back to return in time for the postseason and played 12 snaps in the Packers’ season-ending defeat to the 49ers.
“Guys, don’t be sad. I’m happy, you should be happy,” Mercilus said in an Instagram video.
