Harris County prosecutors Wednesday dismissed a third-degree felony charge against NFL defensive lineman Michael Bennett, who was indicted last year on charges that he assaulted an elderly security guard following Super Bowl LI at NRG Stadium in February 2017.
Vivian King, chief of staff for District Attorney Kim Ogg, said there was insufficient evidence to prove the charge against Bennett, a former player with Alief Taylor High School and Texas A&M who now plays for the New England Patriots.
“After looking at all the evidence and applying the law, a crime could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt,” King said in a statement.
