The Texans have other pending offseason business to conduct involving two of their most talented young players.
General manager Rick Smith reiterated at the NFL scouting combine that he wants to ultimately sign wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to a long-term contract extension.
The Texans are also poised to exercise a fifth-year option for 2018 for Pro Bowl defensive end and former top overall pick Jadeveon Clowney, who energized the defense with his explosive pass-rushing and run-stopping skills with J.J. Watt out for the season with a herniated disk that required surgery.
"You have to get DeAndre done before you do a new deal for Clowney," said former NFL agent Joel Corry, who writes about the business of football for CBS Sports.
